LINOLEUM CARVING TODAY VIII

Competition and exhibition in the Städtische Galerie in Bietigheim-Bissingen

Beginning 23 October 2010 under the motto ‘Linoleum carving today VIII’, the Städtische Galerie in Bietigheim-Bissingen will once again be exhibiting outstanding works of international artists, who participated in the competition of the same name.

The Linoleum Carving Today award was created by the city of Bietigheim-Bissingen in 1989 with the goal of encouraging contemporary artists, who create linoleum carvings. The competition takes place every three years and has developed into an important international graphic art event. From the beginning, it was supported by the Deutsche Linoleumwerke and later by Armstrong DLW GmbH.

The award is being offered for the eighth time, and almost 600 participants have signed up. “We are naturally thrilled with this record participation”, said the director of the Städtische Galerie Dr. Isabell Schenk-Weininger. “Many artists, particularly young ones, are participating for the first time, some from Germany, but most primarily from abroad. Submissions came from the Czech Republic to South Africa, from Mexico to Australia.”

The participants sent in photos of their work, and 125 of them were invited to send in the original pieces. A five-person panel of judges then selected three winners as well as the works that can be seen in the exhibition from 23 October 2010 to 9 January 2011. The awards will be allotted in amounts of 5000, 3000 and 2000 Euros.
